The reason paper piles up is that most filing systems ask you to make a decision you have not got the energy for. Three boxes, one verb each, and the decision gets small enough to make while standing up.

That is the honest limit of every beautiful box ever sold, including ours. The paper is the keepsake and the original. The record of where it lives, who it belongs to and when it expires is software, and that half is what Hubstone is.
Every document knows where it physically is
Ask where the passport is and the answer is the shelf, the box and the envelope, not a search result. That field is on every record, and it is the whole reason to have both halves.
Reminders name the box
"Jane's passport expires March 3. It is in the Records Box." A reminder that does not tell you where to go is just a worry with a date on it.
A read-only view you can share with your sister
She sees what exists and where it lives, without a key to your house or a copy of anything. This is the part no box can offer at any price, and it is the one that matters at 2 a.m.
Photograph what lands in the tray
Hubstone proposes the category and the box, you confirm, and it tells you which folder to drop it in. The filing decision is the hard part, so the machine makes it and you approve it.
Take one person to an appointment
Pull a member envelope and print the list of what that appointment will ask for. The DMV, the school and the hospital all want different things, and the binder already knows which.
One memory sheet per school year
For the kids box: a year in one page, drafted from that year's photos and events, printed for the folder sleeve. You keep the artwork, not the whole pile.

Set A. The matching set
Two document boxes and a file box in one oatmeal linen finish, with everything that goes inside them. This is the whole shelf in one order.
Against the ready-made competition at $300 for the equivalent system, or $310 buying their three boxes separately. Set A also leaves you with spare envelopes, 75 spare folders, 700 spare labels and five spare brass pulls, which is most of the kids set already paid for. To cut about $34, swap the envelopes for a cheaper snap-button pack and the kraft folders for plain manila.

Set B. The Records Box on its own
A tan archival box that opens like a book, with a ring binder inside, which is the closest thing on the market to the ringed version the competition sells.
Worth saying plainly: this lands about $12 over what the ready-made ringed Records Box costs, so on this one piece the competition is close to at cost and you are not saving money. The reasons to still build it are that it is in stock today, and the brass pack and the tags carry over to the File Box when you add it.

Cheaper elsewhere, honestly: the same boxes are sold unbranded at The Container Store, without the metal label frame, for roughly $15 to $25 each, and Target undercuts Amazon by a dollar or two on the framed versions. If you want the look for less, that is where to go, and the free label kit works on any box with a flat front.
Start with the box you already have.
A shoebox with the right label on it beats a beautiful empty system you have not filled in. Download the binder, fill in one page badly, and put it in whatever is on the shelf. The boxes can come later, and so can we.
